Scent of Surrender

Honey

Kiana found her spot under an old oak tree, its branches providing just enough cover to hide her silhouette. She sat on the trunk, pulling out her phone and sending Trey a quick text: "I'm at the beach. Watching the world go by. Love you."

She sent it with a smile, knowing that while he couldn't see her, she could feel his presence in the quiet tension of the city. Kiana loved that she had this kind of power over him—his mind, his heart, his body. She leaned back against the tree, the warm wood sinking into her fingers.

The beach was bustling with late-night revelers, couples walking hand in hand, groups of friends laughing under the stars. Kiana watched it all with a sharp, clinical detachment. She knew every face on the horizon, every voice that drifted her way. This was her domain, and she owned it completely.

She picked up her phone again, scrolling through her contacts until she found his number. Trey answered on the second ring. "Where are you, baby?"

Kiana let her eyes close, relishing the sound of his voice. "Nowhere special. Just walking the beach. I wanted to check in with you first."

Trey didn't argue. He knew better than to fight her games when she was out here. "You look gorgeous in the moonlight, baby. You know you drive me crazy like this."

That was true. Kiana loved that she could make him feel so alive, so completely tethered to her even when he couldn't see her. She opened her eyes and let her gaze sweep the crowd. A couple walked by a few feet away, the man's arm locked possessively around his partner. Kiana smiled to herself. Trey was watching them right now, knowing that she was watching the same thing.

She put her phone back in her clutch and pulled out a small black journal. She loved writing on the beach—letting the sand catch the ink as the tide washed over it. Tonight, she wrote about the tension building between them, the knowledge that he was watching her even when she couldn't see him.

Kiana's phone buzzed with an incoming call. She glanced at the screen—it was Trey. She answered on the third ring. "What is it, baby?"

Trey's voice was gravelly with desire. "I'm at the pier. I wanted to see what you were up to tonight. Do you want me to come find you?"
